Beaches, volcanic cones, tangerine farms and cafés are scattered across the whole island, so route planning is half the trip. The classic strategy: loop the island in one direction — east, then south, then west.

Getting around
A rental car is practically essential on Jeju. Book it the moment you book flights — in peak season cars sell out before plane seats. An International Driving Permit is required.
Where to stay
| Area | Best for |
|---|---|
| Jeju City (Yeon-dong · Nohyeong) | 10 min from the airport, plenty of restaurants. Best base for first/last nights. |
| Jungmun (Seogwipo) | Resort strip on the south coast — pick this for a resort-centered trip. |
| Aewol–Hyeopjae (West) | Café coast with boutique stays. Pairs well with a west-side itinerary. |

What to eat
- Black pork BBQ — Heukdwaeji (black pig) grilled thick-cut, dipped in anchovy sauce — Jeju City’s Black Pork Street.
- Gogi-guksu — Rich pork-broth noodles — Jeju’s comfort food, great for breakfast.
- Braised cutlassfish — Galchi-jorim — the restaurants around Seogwipo Olle Market are good value.
- Omegi rice cake — Mugwort rice cake rolled in red-bean crumbs, from Dongmun Market.
What to bring home
- Hallabong citrus sweets — Chocolates, jellies, juice — cheaper at Dongmun Market than the airport.
- Omegi-tteok — Sold frozen for taking home, at Dongmun Market.
- Udo peanut products — Peanut makgeolli and cookies from the islet.
Good to know
- Check what "full coverage" rental insurance actually excludes (tires, undercarriage, loss-of-use fees).
- Route the island in one direction — backtracking across Jeju wastes hours.
- Weather changes fast; keep one indoor option (museum, café) per day as backup.
